Say where the manuscript goes

A privacy page setting out, feature by feature, exactly what text is sent to OpenAI and Anthropic and when, plus a line at registration so nobody creates an account without knowing. A security page saying what protects a manuscript and, just as plainly, what does not.
Nightly backups, and a copy on a second machine

The database is dumped every night and pulled to a second machine, and the dump has been restored into a throwaway database to prove it works. Before this there was exactly one copy of every manuscript.
Give the chapter list the drawer back

On a narrow phone the menu drawer opened onto a book switcher and nine subtitled rows, leaving the chapter list with no room at all. The sections now fold away, and the drawer scrolls as one column.
A voice per character

Give a character a reading voice in the codex and their dialogue is read in it. A line is only matched when the prose names the speaker next to a speech verb, because reading a line in the wrong voice puts words in someone's mouth.
A portrait for each codex entry

A face is easier to hold in the head than two initials. Images are downscaled and re-encoded on upload, so a phone photo lands at a few kilobytes.
Build the codex from the manuscript

One pass over the book proposes characters, places and items, each with a mention count taken from the prose rather than from a model. A name the manuscript never uses is never offered.
Read the codex as it stood at a chapter

Writing chapter nine, you want what the reader knows by chapter nine, not the finished truth. Entries the prose has not reached yet can be hidden, and so can reveals that come later.
